Apple has launched an internal music publishing division, to be led by Elena Segal.

Apple has announced that they are launching a new publishing division at Apple Music. MBW first reported that this new team will include Operations, Commercial, Publisher Relations and A&R sub-divisions, the latter of whom will focus on the development of songwriters, rather than signing artists.

Apple Music’s publishing division will be led by Elena Segal

The Apple publishing division is the first initiative introduced by the new head of Apple Music worldwide, Oliver Schusser. The project will be led by Elena Segal, who was previously the Legal Director of iTunes.

Apple’s decision to venture directly into music publishing illustrates its aim to secure better music licensing deals with artists.
