It is fair to say that Dua Lipa has had a rather successful fortnight. Last night, the 22-year-old pop sensation picked up two awards at this years BRIT Awards. Dua Lipa won both best British solo female and British breakthrough artist, which is no surprise after the year she has had. After emigrating to London as a teenager, she balanced her music career with modelling whilst working on nightclub doors. Despite losing out on the best LP award to fellow breakthrough star Stormzy, her trophy trawl is the second illustration of her rapid rise to the top this fortnight.
The sixth single to appear on her self-titled debut album, ‘New Rules’ made history last week surpassing 1 billion views on YouTube. Minutes after picking up her awards, she captivated the 02 Arena, smashing her way through a rendition of her record breaking single which has received over 680m streams on Spotify. In the past 7 days alone, she has received 72,000 new direct Spotify followers, bringing her total close to 2 million. Her total playlist following is even more impressive at 150,000,000 (TalentAI). With those stats considered, at the time of writing she is the 6th biggest artist in the world right now (based on playlist follows). Find the full award winners list below.
