Spotify is launching a weekly playlist that tells you what your friends are listening to

Spotify is rolling out a new feature called ‘Friends Weekly’, a curation of the tracks that your friends have recently listened to.

First reported by The Verge, a small group of users have had access to the feature as it has been tested. Spotify is expanding their machine learning driven playlist portfolio, to make the user experience more socially engaging and increase interest in its activity feed.

Spotify has recently unveiled a new free tier of its service

Whilst users can already follow their friends Discover Playlists if they make the public, Spotify is introducing a separate row on the home screen, dedicated to the new feature.

Spotify also recently unveiled its plans for a free tier makeover. The new UI will include a brand new search page, the option to play tracks ‘on demand’ in ‘Gold Edition’ playlists, playlist previews and full-screen art.
