Spotify Newsroom recently announced that flagship country playlist Hot Country was to become an enhanced playlist on the streaming service.
Enhanced playlists allow users to listen to their favourite tracks, while also watching music videos and interviews. These enhanced playlists offer a more immersive listening experience by adding a greater level of storytelling to music discovery, and country music is all about storytelling.
Spotify’s leading country playlist Hot Country now offers new and original video interviews every Friday. This has included Grammy Award winner Keith Urban, who shared his inspiration behind his new album, Graffiti U, while also giving his viewers a behind-the-scenes look at his impressive guitar collection.
Keith Urban said of the ‘Hot Country’ playlist:
Spotify has been an amazing partner, helping me to connect my music with people all over the planet. On their new Hot Country playlist people will not only hear Graffiti U, they'll be able to come inside the studio with me and see a bit about the making of the album. Can't wait for everyone to hear it.”
Brittany Schaffer, Head of Artist and Label Marketing at Spotify’s Nashville office, has noted how country music fans have been slower to adopt streaming than listeners of other genres. Adding engaging video content to the playlist is Spotify’s first step towards helping country artists get more streaming attention online.
Keith Urban’s video content was quickly followed by exciting behind-the-scenes footage from other artists in the country space, including Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, and Dierks Bentley.
Hot Country becoming an enhanced playlist was soon followed by the announcement of a new Spotify live event: Hot Country Live.
Earlier this week, Music Business Worldwide reported that Spotify has launched another live an event: Hot Country Live. This marks the streaming service taking another step towards promoting country music, with Carrie Underwood headlining.
With the announcement of Hot Country Live, Brittany Schnaffer delivered on her promise that:
Spotify is serious about making an impact in country music, and the launch of the Hot Country enhanced playlist is only the first step in showing that commitment."
The event takes place at The Rooftop at Pier 17 venue in New York’s Seaport District on 4th July. Head to Ticketmaster for presale tickets.
