Not ones for shrouding themselves in mystery, rarely has a band name offered such a window into artistic direction as it does in the case of the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. With a name as unforgettable as it is unhinged and as striking as it is slapstick, the Perth natives continue to grow with (yep, you guessed it) psychedelic-rock infused cracker “My Friend’s A Liquid”.

Whilst undoubtedly disciples of a free-spirited, jam-fuelled approach to music that has served up two fascinating, yet slightly fragmented albums, the new single seems like a pivotal point in the evolution of a supremely talented group. The band appear to revel in a renewed focus which sees them replace the heavier, prolonged rock riffs of past singles “Social Candy” and “Gurzle” with a slick, groovier form of psych-rock that showcases a growing maturity to this promising act. This newfound less-is-more approach works wonders immediately, taking the bands natural, expansive flair and merging it with a more structured, radio-friendly approach that has all the feelings of a hit single to it.

Armed with a hypnotic new single, “My Friend’s A Liquid”, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have the potential to be the next Australian outfit from the well-oiled psychedelia production line (responsible for the likes of Tame Impala and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard) to make waves worldwide. With an 8 date tour in February next year that will take in major cities including Leeds, Manchester and London, U.K fans look set to be one of the first beneficiaries of the new and improved sounds of the Perth four-piece.
