Catherine McGrath’s new single ‘Wild’ is a country-pop anthem for unrequited love.
Catherine McGrath is fast becoming the flag bearer for the resurgence of country music in the UK. After collaborations between Justin Timberlake and Chris Stapleton, and Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line, the genre is enjoying a mainstream drive.
Raised in rural Rostrevor, Northern Ireland, Catherine grew up over 4,000 miles away from the epicentre of country music. Despite this, her Irish folk roots and pop-star quality have lifted her into and way beyond the realms of Nashville, Tennessee.
Embraced by the country community, Catherine embarks on the most important period of her career to-date, with the release of her debut album ‘Talk Of This Town’. Teasing what is to come on the record, she has shared ‘Wild’, an empowering lovelorn country-pop hit.
Packed with emotion, a huge chorus and catchy hooks, Catherine’s vocal performance and storytelling ability add to her glistening likeability. ‘Wild’ is not only a tune for country fans but a pop anthem for unrequited love. The track was inspired by her experiences at a Coldplay show, she explains:
This song is one of my favourites I've written. It’s about a guy who I liked but who still wasn't over his ex. He took me to a Coldplay concert that he was meant to go to with his ex and half the time he was holding my hand, the other half he was texting her. Every time we were together he was only ever halfway there and the day after the concert I went into the studio and ended up writing about the whole thing. It's really honest and I think that's what I love most about it.”
Catherine co-wrote the song with legendary country producer, Steve Robson, as well as Lindy Robbins (Dua Lipa) and Jeffrey Steele (Rascal Flatts).
With features on New Music Friday UK, Country Coffeehouse and 100 Uplifting Songs, ‘Wild’ has picked up over 500,000 followers on the day of its release, suggesting that it is certain to be a huge hit in the run-up to her album release (TalentAI).
Catherine McGrath’s debut album ‘Talk Of This Town’ is out on July 27th via Warner Bros Records.
